Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Economics or Finance

About the role

The Department of Economics at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados, is recruiting four full-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturers: three in Economics and one in Finance. Successful candidates will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, student supervision, university service and departmental scholarly and professional activities. Duties begin on 1 August 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Key responsibilities

• Economics: teach at least 12 hours per week, including lectures and tutorials, in at least two of microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistical methods, financial economics, econometrics, mathematics, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Finance: teach at least 12 hours per week, including lectures and tutorials, with preference for financial modelling (Python and Excel), investments, portfolio management, derivatives, valuation, risk analysis and management, bank financial management, investment banking, money and banking, corporate finance, ethics in banking and finance.
• Contribute to the Department's research strategies and supervise student research.
• Engage in university service and contribute to the Department's public service, scholarly and professional activities.

Required profile

• Economics: a PhD in Economics or a closely related quantitative discipline, or a strong record of research and teaching; candidates without a PhD may be considered if they have substantial research output and relevant professional experience as economists.
• Finance: a PhD in Finance or Banking, with a track record of high-quality research and teaching; CFA or FRM certification is a plus, though equivalent experience will also be considered.
