Assistant/Associate Professor, Medical Foundations (Physiology)

About the role

Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) in Barbados is looking for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Medical Foundations (Physiology). The academic rank is set at selection based on qualifications, experience and achievements. The post is open to collaborative, student-focused educators who enjoy teaching physiology; candidates with experience teaching respiratory physiology are especially encouraged, and experience teaching renal physiology is highly desirable. The successful candidate joins the faculty early in the January semester.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging lectures, workshops and other instructional activities within the Medical Foundations curriculum, and run small-group case-based and problem-based learning sessions.
• Mentor medical students individually, advise them on academic matters and refer them to support resources.
• Use teaching technologies such as Zoom, InteDashboard and PointSolutions.
• Prepare course materials, write and review NBME-style questions, and design, administer and evaluate exams and assessments.
• Contribute to curriculum review and improvement with departmental colleagues.
• Serve on faculty committees, collaborate with the Academy for Teaching and Learning, and take part in professional development.
• Pursue scholarly activities such as presentations, publications and educational research.

Required profile

• PhD, MD or equivalent doctoral degree.
• At least 2-5 years of relevant experience teaching physiology in a medical school curriculum.
• Demonstrated expertise in physiology and strong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Commitment to student success and excellence in teaching.

Required skills

• Proficiency with instructional technologies and learning management systems.
• Preferred: experience teaching respiratory and renal physiology, writing or reviewing NBME-style questions, and teaching at a North American, UK or Caribbean medical school.
