Regional Advisor on AML/CFT for Latin America & Caribbean

About the role

The International Monetary Fund seeks a Regional Advisor to lead capacity development on anti‑money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) for its member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Based in Barbados, the role involves frequent travel to the region and close collaboration with IMF headquarters.

Key responsibilities

• Design, manage and coordinate capacity‑development programmes on AML/CFT for IMF member countries in the region.
• Provide advisory services, conduct needs and risk assessments, and draft AML/CFT frameworks and strategies.
• Lead or support LEG missions, including pre‑assessment research, on‑site work and post‑mission reporting.
• Organise and facilitate workshops and seminars for officials of member countries, often in partnership with FATF, World Bank and regional bodies.
• Prepare mission documentation, internal reviews and regular activity reports for headquarters staff.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in law, economics, finance, international relations or a related field.
• Minimum six years of professional experience, with at least four years focused on financial integrity, AML/CFT or related regulatory work.
• Experience in national governments, international organisations, financial intelligence units or AML/CFT supervisory bodies.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
• Strong analytical, diplomatic and relationship‑building abilities.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of AML/CFT architecture and international standards.
• Familiarity with related topics such as correspondent banking, FinTech, virtual assets, beneficial‑ownership transparency and illicit financial flows.
