Environmental, Safety & Health Specialist

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Environmental, Safety, and Health Specialist to support the construction of the South Coast Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility in Christ Church, Barbados. The role involves on‑site inspection, monitoring, auditing and documentation to ensure compliance with project environmental safeguards and the Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP).

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the contractor’s day‑to‑day implementation of the ESMP, C‑ESMP, HSE and related environmental plans.
• Conduct site inspections for erosion/sediment control, dust and noise suppression, wastewater management, spill prevention, hazardous material handling, waste segregation, traffic management, biodiversity protection and site rehabilitation.
• Identify emerging environmental risks and safety or health violations, issue corrective action notices and coordinate resolutions with project teams.
• Review contractor submittals (e.g., JSEA) for compliance with contract requirements.
• Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice to the AECOM project team.
• Maintain logs and registers for accidents, incidents, violations and non‑conformances.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly monitoring and inspection report summaries for the client.

Required profile

• Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of field experience on wastewater or infrastructure construction projects.
• Experience implementing ESMPs in a construction environment.
• Valid local driver’s licence.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Access to a vehicle for site travel.
