Environmental, Safety and Health Specialist

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Environmental, Safety and Health Specialist to support the construction of the South Coast Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility in Christ Church, Barbados. The role involves on‑site inspection, monitoring and auditing to ensure contractor activities comply with project environmental safeguards and the Environmental and Social Management Plans.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise day‑to‑day implementation of the project ESMP, contractor ESMP, HSE and related environmental plans.
• Conduct site inspections for erosion control, dust/noise suppression, wastewater management, spill prevention, hazardous material handling, waste segregation, traffic management, biodiversity protection and rehabilitation.
• Identify emerging environmental risks, safety and health violations and issue corrective action notices.
• Review contractor submittals (e.g., JSEA) for compliance with contract requirements.
• Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice to the AECOM project team and maintain logs of accidents, incidents and non‑conformances.

Required profile

• Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of field experience on wastewater or infrastructure construction projects.
• Experience implementing ESMPs in a construction environment.
• Valid local driver’s licence.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
