Senior Legal Counsel, Business Affairs & Compliance

About the role

The Senior Legal Counsel, Business Affairs & Compliance will provide expert legal advice and ensure regulatory compliance for Sagicor Life Inc and its Caribbean affiliates. This senior position supports day‑to‑day operations across insurance, pensions, securities, real‑estate and anti‑money‑laundering matters.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver legal services that align with statutory and regulatory requirements for insurance, pensions, securities, real‑estate transactions and AML/CFT compliance.
• Draft, review, negotiate and settle contracts, deeds and other legal documents; prepare opinions, briefs and correspondence.
• Support regulatory examinations, internal and external audits, and represent Sagicor in judicial, administrative or regulatory proceedings.
• Monitor and manage external counsel engagements as needed.
• Analyze new and amended legislation, advise on legal and compliance risks, and assist with policy formulation.
• Provide legal support for departmental and strategic projects and deliver stakeholder education and training.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law, Legal Education Certificate and admission to practice in Barbados.
• Minimum 12 years of experience with a commercial law focus covering financial services, M&A, data protection, real property and succession law.
• Regional practice exposure and supervisory management experience; advanced degrees or AML designations are a plus.
• Strong research, organizational and time‑management abilities; capable of handling competing priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
• Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently with sound judgment.
