Social and Gender Safeguard Specialist – Part Time

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Social and Gender Safeguard Specialist to support the South Coast Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility project in Barbados. This 24‑month part‑time position involves field inspection, monitoring and documentation to ensure compliance with social and gender safeguards and the project’s Environmental and Social Management Plans.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily implementation of the ESMP and related social and gender plans by the Contractor.
• Monitor worker welfare, accommodation standards, labor conditions, community safety, traffic risks and security conduct on site.
• Identify emerging social risks and support incident investigations, action tracking and grievance redress mechanisms.
• Document community concerns, track resolutions and provide feedback to stakeholders.
• Monitor gender inclusion commitments and mitigation measures for sexual harassment, SEA and GBV.
• Maintain corrective‑action logs and prepare daily, weekly and monthly monitoring reports for the client.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, gender studies or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of field experience on infrastructure construction projects, including ESMP implementation.
• Valid local driver’s licence; access to a vehicle is an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Knowledge of local government agency requirements and multilateral development bank safeguards is preferred.
