Accountant – Finance Team (Barbados)

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Accountant to join Newport Water’s Finance team in Barbados. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will maintain accurate financial records, support month‑end and year‑end close, and help strengthen controls as the company expands across the Caribbean.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain ledgers, journal entries and other financial records.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close activities, including reconciliations and accruals.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements, management reports and budget variance analyses.
• Process accounts payable and receivable transactions.
• Reconcile bank statements, general‑ledger accounts and intercompany balances.
• Support statutory returns, tax filings and audit schedules.
• Monitor compliance with accounting standards, internal policies and controls.
• Assist with cash‑flow monitoring and forecasting.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities to scale financial processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and regulatory requirements.
• Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA or CIMA (preferred or in progress).

Required skills

• Experience with accounting software (Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Familiarity with cloud‑based accounting or automation platforms such as Zoho One.
