Assistant Accountant – Securities (Temporary)

About the role

The Finance Department of Sagicor Life Inc. is seeking a temporary Assistant Accountant to support the accounting of securities, including bonds, T‑Bills, term deposits, demand loans and equities across Barbados and other regions. The role focuses on accurate recording, reconciliation and reporting of investment transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Clearwater template files for updating investment transactions in the sub‑ledger.
• Review and validate all transactions recorded in the Clearwater sub‑ledger for accuracy and completeness.
• Post security transactions to the general ledger and reconcile the sub‑ledger with the GL.
• Reconcile suspense, inter‑company and broker investment accounts.
• Prepare monthly schedules, audit files, variance analysis and supporting schedules for quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures, including IFRS 9, ECL calculations and asset management reports.
• Compile Par Fund schedules and other required reports for Finance and Treasury.
• Develop the annual budget for projected assets and income of the securities portfolio.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Pursuing a recognized accounting designation (e.g., ACCA, CGA).
• Previous accounting experience, preferably in a financial services environment.
• Strong mathematical and numeracy abilities.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Goal‑oriented, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• High proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
• Experience using the Clearwater investment sub‑ledger system.
