Welder - Steel Fabrication

About the role

Aecon's Civil East sector, which focuses on heavy civil construction, is looking for a dedicated Welder to join its team in Barbados. Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Welder prepares and cuts metal, sets up components and joins them with welding equipment to fabricate and repair metal structures and parts.

Key responsibilities

• Layout, fit and weld fabricated steel components according to blueprints and shop drawings.
• Use SMAW welding techniques on mild steel.
• Operate welding generators, welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders and other fabrication tools.
• Inspect work to ensure it meets company and customer quality standards.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in custom steel fabrication.
• Experience in a fabrication shop environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Required skills

• AWS D1.1 or CWB certification or equivalent.
• Strong proficiency in reading blueprints and weld symbols.
• Skilled in SMAW welding.
• Knowledge of shop math and fabrication tolerances.
