Staff Nurse - Same Day Emergency Care

About the role

We are looking for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit within Acute Medicine at SaTH. The role involves rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who need urgent care but do not require admission, working in a fast‑paced environment with 6 trolleys and 12 chairs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform timely clinical assessments and initiate appropriate treatments.
• Monitor patient progress, record observations and update electronic patient records.
• Collaborate with doctors, advanced clinical practitioners and administrative staff to ensure safe and efficient patient flow.
• Escalate changes in patient condition and make referrals according to SDEC pathways.
• Provide clear information and reassurance to patients and their families.
• Report and investigate adverse events, contributing to learning and quality improvement.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualified to practice in the UK, currently at Band 5.
• Ability to exercise sound clinical judgement and prioritise workload in a busy setting.
• Commitment to patient safety and adherence to national SDEC guidance.
• Willingness to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
