About the role

The Proofreader will ensure all editorial content for Barbados TODAY meets the highest standards of accuracy, consistency, and style. Working closely with writers, editors, and designers, you will play a key part in delivering polished, publication‑ready material.

Key responsibilities

• Review and proofread news articles, columns, features, and opinion pieces for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, clarity and consistency according to house style guides.
• Verify names, dates, figures, places and references against trusted sources, flagging any inconsistencies or missing credits.
• Identify language that could pose defamation, privacy or bias risks and escalate to editors or legal as needed.
• Check designed pages for correct copy, captions, display text, alignment, font consistency and formatting errors.
• Optimise headlines and metadata for digital reading and SEO while preserving accuracy.
• Quality‑check visuals, graphics, captions and data, validating units, scales and numbers.
• Provide timely feedback to writers and editors, submitting marked‑up versions with changes and unresolved queries.
• Track recurring editorial errors and report monthly to support continuous improvement.
