Corporate Project Engineer

About the role

Sol Petroleum is looking for a Corporate Project Engineer to support its markets in planning, developing and executing projects safely, on time and on budget, in close partnership with stakeholders such as regional managers, general managers, operations managers, accounting, sourcing and legal. The position reports to the Infrastructure Regional Lead and involves leading projects from scoping and budgeting through to handover.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HSE efforts, demonstrating a safety-first culture in all projects and stakeholder interactions.
• Plan, design and execute terminals, retail and commercial infrastructure projects through contractors, safely, on time and on budget.
• Manage projects from scoping, planning and budgeting (FEED), bidding and procurement, to execution and handover.
• Determine materials and equipment procurement specifications.
• Prepare and evaluate tender documents for engineering projects, liaising with Sourcing.
• Assist with technical facility and equipment audits at depots and customer inspections.
• Manage CAPEX budgets for assigned projects, track budgets closely, prepare detailed time lines and report regularly to stakeholders and management.
• Review and approve contractor and supplier invoices, and work with Accounting on proper asset categorization.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Industrial fields.
• Minimum of 5 years of engineering work experience.
• Working knowledge of the petroleum industry preferred.
• Certifications such as sponsorship of engineering bodies or the Project Management Institute are a plus.
• Desire to achieve professional engineer membership in a recognized engineering body.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Project.
• Engineering tools for budgeting, contract and procurement, and project definition and execution.
• Contract management and negotiation skills.
• Strong communication, teamwork, analytical and decision-making abilities.
